Coloccini chasing Depor exit

San Lorenzo de Almagro are attempting to broker a loan deal for Fabricio Coloccini.

Argentine outfit San Lorenzo de Almagro are attempting to broker a loan deal for out-of-favour Deportivo La Coruna defender Fabricio Coloccini.

The 25-year-old made 13 starts for Depor in the first half of the season, but has been overlooked by coach Joaquin Caparros for a number of weeks now and is understood to have been informed that he has little future at the club.

Premiership clubs Tottenham and Newcastle were reported to have shown interest in the Argentina international during the European transfer window in January, but were put off by Depor's demands and instead opted to keep their powder dry until the summer.

As a result, Coloccini's father Oswaldo - who also acts as his agent - is now looking to broker a loan deal with San Lorenzo to ensure that his son gets regular playing time in the second half of the campaign - especially with June's Copa America now on the horizon.

"At first we received a negative from Deportivo, but now you could say that negotiations are underway," the player's father told an Argentine radio station.

"In Europe the transfer window is closed, therefore there is a possibility that he could go.

"Either he plays for San Lorenzo de Almagro for the remainder of the season or he won't play at all.

"Here (in Argentina) he would be close to the national team and that would give him more chance of playing in the Copa America."
