Espanyol seal Jofre swoop

Espanyol have signed Jofre Mateu from Levante on a four year deal.

Espanyol have signed Jofre Mateu from Levante on a four year deal to follow the capture of Eduardo Costa from Marseille.

Jofre arrives on a free transfer after he stalled on signing a new deal at relegated Levante, who have already moved to sign Laurent Courtois from Istres to replace the departing star.

Having come through the Barcelona youth ranks with the likes of Carles Puyol, Xavi and Gabri, Jofre knows the Catalan city well and will boost the squad ahead of Uefa Cup football next term.

Jofre should be joined imminently by Bordeaux star Albert Riera at Espanyol, and the arrival of the left-sided duo should spell the end of Oscar Serrano's career with the club.

The midfielder has so far refused to put pen to paper on a new deal, leaving The Parakeets increasingly frustrated as his current agreement expires in just a week.
