Alex McLeish wants Michel to be firing on all cylinders as quickly as possible at Birmingham.

Blues boss predicts bright future for new signing

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish believes new signing Michel will fit seamlessly into the squad and expects the midfielder to be firing on all cylinders as soon as possible. The 24-year-old joined Blues on Monday in a £3million move from La Liga side Sporting Gijon and McLeish believes he has all the attributes to be a success in England. He said: "We looked at Michel last year and we thought he was a player who would fit in with the financial parameters of the club. "He is a young player with a lot to prove. He is hungry, good with the ball, and is an ideal capture in terms of fitting in with the types of players we have at the club." Michel joins a team unbeaten in 14 games could get a chance to impress sooner than expected after the injury to Lee Carsley. Although McLeish insists he will not be rushed into action, he does expect a telling contribution from the Spaniard during the second half of the season. "He will find a different style of play in the Premier League in terms of aggression and intensity, but I'm sure he will adapt quickly, and it's great that he's come into a squad who are doing very well," McLeish added. "We're not putting him under pressure straightaway, but at the same time he can't think he's not going to have anything to do before the summer, or even next season. "He has got to be ready. We will train him up and he knows he can definitely complement the players we already have here. "If anything should happen to my midfielders, then I want him to be right to come in and challenge the likes of Barry Ferguson and Lee Bowyer."
