Petrov saga nears end

Wolfsburg star Martin Petrov is expected to finally join Atletico Madrid on Monday.

The protracted transfer of Martin Petrov to Atletico Madrid is expected to finally go ahead on Monday after Wolfsburg reportedly gave the green light for the forward to leave.

Atletico have been pursuing Petrov for many weeks and look to have landed their man after the Bundesliga outfit finally relented in their desire to receive ‚é¼10 million for the Bulgaria international.

The player has made no secret of his desire to move to La Liga, and indicated to the club that he would let his contract run out next season if a deal was not reached.

In order to seal a move to Vicente Calderon it is believed that the 26-year-old has waived the 15 percent he and his agent were entitled to under the terms of the transfer.

Petrov has remained Atletico's top transfer target throughout the summer and if the player signs on Monday it will represent the conclusion of a determined and relentless chase.

Meanwhile Wolfsburg are keen to make their own additions during pre-season and sport director Thomas Strunz has travelled to Brazil to cast his eye over the latest talents to emerge from the South American nation.

The Bundesliga side have been credited with an interest in Sao Paulo full back Cicinho, and are also believed to be monitoring Atletico Paranaense attacker Dagoberto and Coritiba defender Rafael.
