Stankovic joy at Islanders return

JOVAN STANKOVIC has revealed his delight at securing a move back to Mallorca as part of the deal that took Alvaro Novo in the opposite direction to Atletico Madrid.

The Yugoslav left the Islanders for Atletico two years ago but never recaptured his best form at El Vicente Calderon.

However, the 31-year-old is now overjoyed to have been given the chance to resurrect his Primera career with his former club.

"I believed that I could still play in the best league in the world, but the offers I got were from La Segunda or elsewhere," said the 31-year-old.

"I was waiting for a Primera side to show an interest, I had many offers but I did not accept them. I was waiting for an offer that suited me.

"I am very happy, (that Mallorca came in) it was always my objective to return here someday but it did look very difficult.

"In all the games I played last year I was at a good level.

"I want to play on for at least two or three years.

"I am sure that I am still the same player as I was during my first spell here."
