Valencia defender Roberto Ayala has agreed to join Villarreal at the end of the season.Ayala's Valencia contract expires in the summer and he has decided to go elsewhere after talks of a new deal failed to materialise.
According to a statement from Villarreal, the Argentine is to join the club on a three-year deal in June.
Ayala has won the Spanish League (twice) and the Uefa Cup with Valencia and helped them to the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2001.
Villarreal are determined to strengthen their defence ahead of next season and have also been linked with a move for Deportivo La Coruna's Joan Capdevila.
Capdevila is out of contract in the summer and Spanish sources suggest Villarreal are ready to offer him a lucrative deal.
Espanyol and Real Zaragoza are also believed to be interested in Capdevila.
