Atletico near to twin deal

Atletico Madrid are close to clinching a deal for Martin Petrov and Luciano Galletti.

Atletico Madrid are close to clinching a double deal for Wolfsburg midfielder Martin Petrov and Real Zaragoza ace Luciano Galletti.

Petrov has announced that he hopes to sign for Atletico this week after his ‚é¼9 million move from Wolfsburg looks to finally be completed.

The Bulgaria international stated that he hopes to tie up the deal by Wednesday, only ten days after the transfer looked to be dead.

After playing for Wolfsburg in their 2-2 with Sturm Graz in the InterToto Cup last Saturday, Petrov broke his silence over the negotiations with Atletico.

"I hope that the agreement will be finalised in the next two days and that on Wednesday I can tell everyone that I am an Atletico Madrid player," he said.

The midfielder's agent, Latchezar Tanev, is holding talks with the German club and is confident that they will finally accept Atletico's offer of ‚é¼9 million.

Petrov was facing up to remaining at the Wolves at the end of last month when his switch to Vicente Calderon looked doubtful when the German club turned down an offer despite the player agreeing personal terms with the Spanish outfit.

Meanwhile, Argentinian winger Galletti has confirmed he is near to completing his switch to the Spanish capital.

Zaragoza and Atletico have been discussing a transfer fee, while Galletti is optimistic the details will be finalised in the coming days.

Galletti told AS: "I hope we can make it all official this week.

"I think my transfer to Atletico is imminent but so far they haven't called me to say the deal is closed as there are still some matters to resolve.

"I would like to sort these out quickly and hope it will all be done in two or three days."
