Real pair omitted from tour

Real Madrid have left Thomas Gravesen and Carlos Diogo out of their pre-season squad.

Thomas Gravesen and Carlos Diogo have been left out of the squad for Real Madrid's pre-season tour of USA.

Denmark international Gravesen has been linked with a move away from the Spanish giants for several months, after struggling to adapt to life in La Liga.

Gravesen's Real future was further threatened by the arrival of Brazilian midfielder Emerson this summer, and he now looks certain to leave the Bernabeu following new coach Fabio Capello's decision to omit him from this week's tour.

Several Premiership clubs have already expressed an interest in the 30-year-old powerhouse, with Newcastle among the frontrunners.

Right back Diogo was unable to force his way into the Real starting XI last season, with the likes of Michel Salgado and Cicinho keeping him out of the defensive line.

The Uruguayan, who only joined from River Plate last year, has been linked with a switch to Lyon.

New signings Fabio Cannavaro, Emerson and Ruud van Nistelrooy have all been included in Real's 24-man squad, but Ronaldo and Guti are to remain in Madrid to continue their recovery from injury.

Real play MLS side DC United on Wednesday in Seattle and meet Real Salt Lake three days later.
