Iker eyes extended Real stay

Goalkeeper Iker Casillas insists he wants to extend his contract at Real Madrid.

Goalkeeper Iker Casillas insists he wants to extend his contract at Real Madrid and has no desire to leave.

The Spain international has come through the ranks at Real to establish himself as the club's undisputed number one, and is widely regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers in Europe.

He is under contract at Real until June 2006, but has sporadically been linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu with Manchester United understood to be big admirers.

However, the 23-year-old's agent Gines Carvajal has opened talks with Real about extending his client's deal, and Casillas seems certain an agreement will be reached.

"I am very happy and now what I need to do is be calm," he told Marca.

"I must work hard, train and play football.

"I must be focused on my job and whatever goes on with my contract my agent must handle.

"But I can assure people I am very happy because I am a very big Madrid fan.

"I have been here since I was eight and I am as much of a Madrid man as (Alfredo) Di Stefano.

"Nothing would give more pleasure than staying at Real Madrid because this is the club of my life."
