Totti and Madrid deny transfer talk

Roma captain Francesco Totti has insisted he is happy at the club and says he is not moving to Real Madrid to replace Ronaldo.

Speculation has been rife that the Brazilian legend was on his way back to Giuseppe Meazza to play for Internazionale - the team he left Real for in 2002.

Real have long been linked with Totti and it was suggested that the Spanish giants were lining him up to succeed Ronaldo at El Santiago Bernabeu.

However, Totti has insisted he knows nothing of a move to Madrid.

"Real ? I'm staying at Roma, nothing else," he blasted.

"Now I feel good here and I've a contract until 2006."

Totti led his side to an emphatic 4-0 victory over Juventus at the weekend and he is looking to lead the Giallorossi to the Scudetto.

"We are five points from from Milan and we will try to take advantage from their mistakes.

"Let's hope they will make efforts in the Champions League. They can't maintain this rhythm until the end."

Real sporting director Jorge Valdano also confirmed that they had not made a move for Totti.

"I've never spoken with Totti and Real have never made an offer to him," Valdano underlined.

"I can only talk positively of Totti's talent, but in this moment I don't think Real could be interested in a player with his characteristics as we are already covered in that role with important players."

Madrid were also quick in denying reports that Ronaldo was in Italy talking terms over a possible return to Inter.

"I think it is difficult to say he will leave Real," said Valdano.

"In this city and in this team he's happy. He's one of those players who plays better when he's absolutely happy."
