Zambrotta repels criticism

Gianluca Zambrotta has hit back at those who labelled him a betrayer.

Gianluca Zambrotta has hit back at those who labelled him a 'betrayer' following his switch to Barcelona from Juventus.

The talented Italy international elected to quit Turin upon the club's demotion for their involvement in the match-fixing scandal that has rocked Serie A.

Zambrotta feels it is Juventus' players that should feel aggrieved, given the fact they have had titles stripped due to the misdemeanours of the club's management.

Of the opinion that it is he that has been wronged, the fleet footed left back has revealed he is more than content with his move to European champions Barcelona.

"People can think what they want," Zambrotta told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Sincerely, I wouldn't have left should it not have happened, the scandal with the team's relegation.

"I feel myself betrayed because it was me who entered the pitch with my team-mates to win matches with our technical strengths.

"And I feel myself betrayed by the old management's behaviour, because we entered the pitch still clean.

"Spain is another world. I have the will to change, to feel more tranquil and I'm happy about how things are going there.

"At Juve I had seven beautiful and intense years. I gave a lot and I got a lot."
