Barca claim Alves option

Joan Laporta claims Barca have an option in place to sign Sevilla star Daniel Alves.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta claims the Catalans already have an option in place to sign Sevilla star Daniel Alves.

Alves, a right-sided midfielder, is understood to be a target for Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez but seems unlikely to leave Sevilla this summer after the recent sale of Julio Baptista to Real Madrid.

The Primera outfit have qualified for the Uefa Cup again this term and do not want to see their squad broken up.

However, it appears that as and when they are willing to cash in on the 22-year-old, Barca will be at the front of the queue.

Sevilla president Jose Maria Del Nido has denied that any sort of option is in place, but Laporta is adamant his club do have a gentleman's agreement with their Primera rivals - believed to have been negotiated as part of the deal that took Javier Saviola to Sevilla on a season-long loan.

"We have secured first option on Alves and other conditions that interest us," stated Laporta.

"We have the word of Del Nido and that is good enough for us."
