AC Milan have insisted that Thiago Silva is not for sale amid speculation of fresh interest in the defender from Barcelona.

Galliani would give short shrift to any enquiry from Barcelona

AC Milan have insisted that Thiago Silva is not for sale amid speculation of fresh interest in the defender from Barcelona. The Brazil international has been linked with a string of European rivals over the past 12 months, with Barcelona rumoured to be considering a summer bid. However, with Silva under contract at the San Siro until 2016, Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani says any enquiry from Barcelona would be given short shrift. Galliani told Gazzetta dello Sport: "If [Barcelona president] Sandro Rosell asks me for Thiago Silva, I will reply that the player is not for sale." The 27-year-old has been a regular for the Rossoneri since joining the Serie A giants from Fluminense in 2009 and has scored two goals in 27 league appearances for the club this season. The centre-half, though, is currently sidelined by a thigh injury suffered against Roma at the weekend that has ruled him out for up to four weeks. It means Silva will miss out on another meeting with Barcelona when Milan entertain the holders in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday evening.
