Bernabeu squad begin pre-season duty under Mourinho

Real Madrid have announced that goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek has signed a new one-year contract at the Bernabeu. The former Liverpool shot-stopper has played only one La Liga match since moving to Spain in 2007. Dudek, who famously won the UEFA Champions League with the Reds, has been forced to play understudy to Spain's World Cup-winning captain Iker Casillas. But the 37-year-old remains happy with Real, despite the paucity of first-team opportunities, and has committed another year of his career. Meanwhile, 10 members of Real Madrid's senior squad reported for pre-season duty on Thursday for the first time under new coach Jose Mourinho. The club's World Cup winners, including Casillas, are expected to link up with their team-mates on 2nd August. Two players absent from the club's training ground in Valdebebas, where those in attendance underwent medical exams, were veteran striker Raul and midfielder Guti. The Spaniards are both under contract with the club for another year but have yet to confirm if they will remain at the Bernabeu for the 2010/11 campaign.
