Atletico frontman hopes boss avoids the axe

Florent Sinama-Pongolle believes Atletico Madrid would be wrong to part with under-fire coach Abel Resino. Poor performances have blighted Atletico's season so far, with ever-increasing pressure being placed upon their manager. Lacklustre showings in the Primera Liga and the UEFA Champions League have incurred the wrath of the club's fanatical support, with changes demanded from the terraces. French striker Sinama-Pongolle feels such action is not required, though, insisting the players are to blame for the continued failings, not the coach. "I don't think it would be best to sack the manager," he said following Wednesday's disappointing 4-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. "Personally, I don't think that would be the answer to our problem. "Everyone knows we have quality players here. What we need now is to get some confidence, which we lack at the moment. "We need a positive result and then we will be on our way to being successful again."
