Midfielder snapped up on a free transfer until the end of the season

Excelsior have brought midfielder Luigi Bruins back to the club on a short-term deal until the end of the season in a bid to boost their survival hopes. Bruins started his career with Excelsior before going on to spend four years with Eredivisie rivals Feyenoord from 2007 to 2011. He did not get offered a new deal by Feyenoord last summer and, after a few months without a club, was snapped up by Red Bull Salzburg in October. However, Bruins' stint in Austria proved short-lived and he became a free agent again when a mutual agreement was reached to terminate his contract in December. The 24-year-old has now been given the chance to reignite his career at Excelsior, who are currently bottom of the table in Holland.
