PSG boss delighted team did not waste money

Paris Saint Germain manager Carlo Ancelotti is pleased the Ligue 1 club stayed prudent during the January transfer window. The club had money to spend following a takeover by Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) last summer. PSG were linked with high-profile stars such as Carlos Tevez, David Beckham and Alexandre Pato, although none joined. They did snap up Brazilian defenders Alex and Maxwell and Italian midfielder Thiago Motta and Ancelotti was happy with their business. The former Chelsea tactician was pleased the Parisians did not spend vast amounts of money just for the sake of it.

Strong message

"It's true that we now have money and players at Paris but we haven't wasted our money," said the Italian. "We have opportunities to invest. We've signed big players, who we didn't pay much for, so it was good business." He added: "Tevez didn't come because we couldn't reach a financial agreement with him and his agent. "But we sent out a strong message: we won't invest our money any which way. The transfer window was very good and I'm very happy."
