Defender yet to reach agreement with Valencia

Ajax defender Gregory van der Wiel is yet to reach an agreement with Valencia over a January move, according to his agent. Recent reports had suggested the Netherlands international had already agreed personal terms with the Primera Liga side. But his agent, Hakim Slimani, insists a transfer fee will have to be settled on before that can happen. He told Voetbal International: "Valencia will have to reach an agreement with Ajax first. "There's quite a good atmosphere, though."

Good move

Van der Wiel, who is contracted at Ajax until the summer of 2013, has previously been linked with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Juventus. Slimani believes a Valencia switch would be a good move for the 23-year-old right-back, who came through the youth ranks in Amsterdam. He added: "Valencia would be a great next step in Gregory's career. "They really want him as their new right-back and Valencia are a big team in a superb league."
