Young keeper expected to sign extended contract

Palermo goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu is expected to sign a new deal with the club shortly, according to his agent. The 23-year-old Italy international is regarded as a hot-prospect by the Sicilian outfit and is expected to have a long future in the game. Sirigu's agent Carlo Pallavicino is confident a deal will be done soon, and insists the young shot-stopper will not be holding out for a big-money contract. "We look forward for news but Salvatore is very calm," he told calciomercato.com. "An increase of salary? Sporting director (Walter Sabatini) in June told us to have trust and confidence and we have it. "It's true that he has a salary as a reserve goalkeeper but it was renewed last year. "Someone else in his place would take the opportunity to ask for much more money since his contract is to expire in June 2011. "Sirigu gave his word when he signed the contract - Palermo is my home. "The sporting director was clear at the time of signing. He said 'he has proved himself as a Serie A goalkeeper and Zamparini (chairman, Maurizio) will renew the contract without you needing to ask.' Zamparini is an honest man, we just have to wait."
