PSG confirm Gallardo capture

Paris Saint Germain have confirmed the signing of Marcelo Gallardo.

Paris Saint Germain have confirmed the signing of Argentinian midfielder Marcelo Gallardo for an undisclosed fee.

The 30-year-old moves to the Parc des Princes from River Plate on a two-and-a-half year deal.

Gallardo has previous Ligue 1 experience having spent four years with Monaco between 1999 and 2003.

PSG are currently sitting in 16th place in Ligue 1 and Gallardo hopes to help the club improve in the second half of the season.

"I chose Paris because it is a great club that deserves to be among the top sides in France," he said.

"It is a beautiful and exciting challenge, I am very happy to be here.

"But I am no saviour, of course in my mind I want to achieve great things at Paris."

PSG chairman Alain Cayzac expects Gallardo's signing to be the only bit of business in the January transfer window.

Bernard Mendy, Jerome Rothen and Fabrice Pancrate have all been linked with moves away, but Cayzac is expecting a quiet month.

"We are not looking for any players, there are no departures expected," he confirmed.

"No players have come and asked me to leave."
