Brest beaten by Lille; PSG overcome Marseille

Surprise leaders Brest lost to Lille as Paris St Germain beat Marseille, while Monaco emphatically returned to winning ways. Brest have enjoyed a dream start to the season after winning promotion from the second tier but their eight-match unbeaten run came to an end with a 3-1 defeat at Lille. Moussa Sow opened the scoring for Lille four minutes before half-time and Gervinho then made it 2-0 early in the second period. Romain Poyet pulled a goal back just after the hour mark but Eden Hazard re-established Lille's two-goal advantage to secure the victory. Brest's slip-up gave Marseille the opportunity to climb top with a win over Paris St Germain, but they could not capitalise as they went down 2-1 at Parc des Princes. All the goals arrived in the opening 23 minutes as Mevlut Erdinc and Guillaume Hoarau struck for PSG before Lucho Gonzalez replied for last season's champions. Monaco remain in the relegation zone despite claiming their first win since August courtesy of a thumping 4-0 triumph away to Nancy. Benjamin Gavanon's own goal after 55 minutes set Monaco on course for three points and they ruthlessly finished the job. Peter Hansson doubled their lead before South Korean striker Park Chu-young chipped in with a late double. Lens were another team in the bottom three to win as they overcame high-flying Montpellier 2-0 at home. Adil Hermach broke the deadlock on seven minutes and Kanga Akale added a second with a header four minutes before half-time. Nice also caused an upset with a 2-0 success against a Toulouse side reduced to ten men before the final whistle. Danijel Ljuboja's first-half effort put Nice in control and Adrian Gunino was then given his marching orders eight minutes from time before Chaouki Ben Saada completed the scoring.
