Roux keen to keep contracted stars

AUXERRE boss Guy Roux insists that all those players who are still under contract at the club will stay at Stade Abbe-Deschamps next season.

Star duo Djibril Cisse and Phillipe Mexes have been linked with moves away from Auxerre in the summer, but Roux is adamant that the players will honour their contracts unless suitable offers are made for them.

"In football, contracts generally mean nothing - except at Auxerre," said Roux. "At our club they bind people.

"When we want to part with someone who is under contract, we are obliged to keep him.

"When a player is under contract and wants to leave, but he still has a year to run then he must stay. That is the way we work at Auxerre."

Key trio Jean-Alain Boumsong, Olivier Kapo and Khalilou Fadiga who just have one-year to run on their current deals, have been linked with moves away, but as yet no moves have come about.

Defender Boumsong, who scored the winner in last weekend's Cup final against Paris Saint Germain, has attracted the interest of Liverpool, Marseille and German side Borussia Dortmund, but no talks have begun between the clubs.

Kapo has been linked with Arsenal, Manchester United and Valencia, but it appears that Auxerre's ‚é¼15 million price tag has scared off interested clubs.

The French international has admitted that he could stay at Auxerre next season and that he will resolve his future in the next few weeks.

"I didn't say goodbye to Auxerre. We will see what happens in the next few weeks," said Kapo.

"Remaining at Auxerre is a possibility I will consider and from what I know they don't want to sell me."

Senegal winger Fadiga could also stay at Auxerre after interest from Celtic, Sunderland and Southampton all died down.

The African star has even been linked with a move to United Arab Emirates side Al-Ain to join up with former Senegal coach Bruno Metsu.
