Keeper set to sign four-year contract in order to leave Ajax

Ajax goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg is waiting to finalise a move to Roma after the two clubs agreed a deal in principle. Stekelenburg, who has one year left on his contract at Ajax, has been heavily linked with a transfer to Roma throughout the summer. Dutch champions Ajax have now confirmed that the two teams have settled on a fee for the Netherlands international, who has established himself as one of Europe's most consistent keepers in recent seasons. "Ajax and Roma have got a general agreement for Stekelenburg's transfer," read a statement on Ajax's official website. "The agreement with the Italian club is subject to a few conditions." It is understood that Stekelenburg has agreed a four-year contract to move to the Stadio Olimpico and has undergone a medical. Roma are reportedly set to pay an initial fee of €6million (£5.3m) for the 28-year-old, with a further €2million (£1.8m) due depending on performance.
