Argentine midfielder keen to move on

Monaco boss Guy Lacombe has revealed that Alejandro Alonso has expressed a desire to leave the club. The Argentine midfielder moved to Stade Louis II from Bordeaux in 2008 and quickly established himself as a first-team regular. However, he fell out of favour with Monaco supporters last year and was jeered from the field after being substituted in a 2-0 defeat to Valenciennes on 23rd October. He has failed to make Lacombe's squad since that fixture, meaning he has made just three appearances this term.

Request

Alonso feels the time has come for him to take on a fresh challenge elsewhere and he has already informed his manager of his wish to move on in January. "We met at his request and the two of us talked," said Lacombe. "It's become complicated for him here. I think he's thinking about leaving in the next transfer window." While Alonso is determined to move in the New Year, his contract with Monaco is set to expire next summer, meaning he would be released as a free agent.
