Rennes defender Rod Fanni has emerged as a possible target for Marseille following Cesar Azpilicueta's injury.

Rennes defender seen as replacement for Azpilicueta

Rennes defender Rod Fanni has emerged as a possible target for Marseille following Cesar Azpilicueta's injury at the weekend. The champions went to the top of Ligue 1 with a 4-0 home win over Montpellier but the victory came at a cost, with right full-back Azpilicueta rupturing his anterior cruciate ligaments in his left knee. The 21-year-old Spaniard will shortly go under the surgeon's knife in his native country and is not expected to feature again this term. Marseille boss Didier Deschamps is weighing up whether or not to sign a new defender right away, given he has just one direct replacement in the shape of Charles Kabore. L'Equipe has named Fanni as a possible target, although it is thought the champions would have to pay about €4million (£3.36m) to sign the French international, who is under contract with Rennes until 2012. Argentine ace Marcos Angeleri is also rumoured as a possible target, with the 27-year-old right-back yet to make an appearance for Sunderland since his switch to the Stadium of Light for £1.5million during the summer.
