Cisse set for October return

Marseille striker Djibril Cisse is set to resume training next month.

Marseille striker Djibril Cisse is set to resume training next month.

The 24-year-old, at the Stade Velodrome on a season-long loan from Liverpool, broke his leg during France's final World Cup warm-up match in June.

He is on the road to recovery though, and OM chairman Pape Diouf is looking forward to seeing him back in action.

Diouf is even hopeful that Cisse could make his first team debut for Marseille before the end of next month.

"What I've heard from the medical staff and from the lad himself let me think he could resume training in October," he told Marseille's official website.

"Let's be optimistic, we might see him on the pitch at the end of October."

Cisse suffered a horrific injury to his left leg in October 2004 and missed six months of football for Liverpool.
