Bordeaux confirm Henrique blow

Bordeaux defender Henrique is likely to be sidelined for six months with a knee injury.

Bordeaux have confirmed that star defender Henrique is likely to be sidelined for the next six months after sustaining a serious knee injury.

Henrique - who scored the winning goal in the League Cup final against Lyon in March - suffered knee ligament damage in Sunday's 2-0 win over St Etienne.

The Brazilian defender has played a prominent role for Les Girondins this season and confirmation that he will be out for half a year is serious indeed for the French side.

Bordeaux have already axed Gerald Cid from their starting XI following the announcement of his future move to Bolton, and coach Ricardo will now be praying that the latest defensive blow will not affect the club's bid for UEFA Champions League football.

Ricardo is likely to sign a replacement centre-back in the summer, with Lille's Nicolas Plestan reportedly topping his wish list.
