Group C Round-up

Lens booked their place in the next stage of the Uefa Cup with a 2-1 win over Sampdoria.

Lens booked their place in the next stage of the Uefa Cup with a last-gasp 2-1 win over Sampdoria.

Issam Jomaa's last-minute goal gave the French side all three points and dumped the Italians out of Europe altogether.

The French side made the perfect start to the game when Olivier Thomert fired them in front after just ten minutes.

Sampdoria fought back and drew level on 23 minutes when Francesco Flachi found the back of the net.

That looked like being enough to give Sampdoria a point and progression to the last 32 until Jomaa struck in the dying seconds to earn Lens the win and consign Samp to an early European exit.

The win means Lens finish second in Group C, with Samp coming fourth.

Steaua Bucharest ensured they finished top of the pile after earning a goalless draw against Hertha Berlin.

The draw in the German capital proved good enough for Hertha to qualify for the next stage by finishing third in the group.
