Elber joins Foals

Giovane Elber has returned to Germany with Borussia Monchengladbach.

Former Bayern Munich striker Giovane Elber has become the latest player to join Bundesliga strugglers Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Brazilian star became the Foals' seventh new signing this month after agreeing an 18-month deal at Borussia Park to end an unhappy spell with French champions Lyon.

"Giovane is the most successful foreign player ever in the Bundesliga and when someone such as him is on the market for free then you just have to make your move," said Gladbach sport director Christian Hochstatter.

The 32-year-old scored a total of 111 goals in 219 Bundesliga games for Stuttgart and Bayern before moving to France in the summer of 2003.

He has missed most of the current season with a broken shinbone, but hopes to be able to make his debut for the five-time German champions soon.

"I will do everything possible to get fit again soon," said Elber.

"I think I should be able to start training with the team in two or three weeks."
