Montpellier claimed their first away win of the season to heap more pressure on Sochaux at the bottom of Ligue 1 on Saturday.

Sochaux were already trailing to a 19th-minute goal from Montpellier forward Anthony Mounier when they lost Nathan Sinkala to a red card 10 minutes before half-time.

Siaka Tiene then wrapped up a 2-0 win for the 2012 champions, who pulled four points clear of a bottom three occupied by Valenciennes, Sochaux and Ajaccio.

Valenciennes were due to play Marseille on Saturday afternoon but their match was postponed because of heavy rain, while defeat leaves Sochaux 10 points from safety.

Basement side Ajaccio are even worse off and suffered their fifth successive league defeat in a 2-0 reverse at Nice.

With just one win all season, it was no surprise the Corsican club trailed to a fifth-minute opener from Christian Bruls, with Dario Cvitanich then rounding off the win in the dying seconds.

Evian are perched just above the relegation zone after an uninspiring goalless draw with fellow strugglers Rennes, who have a six-point cushion over the bottom three.

In Saturday's other action, Adama Ba's first-half goal earned Bastia a 1-0 victory over Bordeaux while two early goals earned Lorient derby honours in their clash with Guingamp.

Yann Jouffre's eighth-minute strike was added to four minutes later by Kevin Monnet-Paquet as Lorient got back to winning ways with a 2-0 triumph at the Stade du Moustoir.
