Midfielder leaves PSG after agreement reached to cancel contract

Out-of-favour Jerome Rothen has left Paris St Germain after agreement was reached to cancel his contract. The 32-year-old's exit comes after he was deemed surplus to requirements by PSG coach Antoine Kombouare. Both parties were in talks to cancel the midfielder's contract, which ran until June 2011 and was worth 180,000 euros a month. These talks have now reached a successful conclusion, with a statement on the club's official website saying: "Paris Saint Germain and Jerome Rothen on Tuesday, 19 October reached an agreement over the termination of the player's contract. "The player is now free to sign for the club of his choice." Rothen's problems at PSG began at the end of the 2008-09 season, when he strongly criticised the club's management. The former France international was subsequently loaned to Scottish giants Rangers before joining Turkish side Ankaragucu on another loan deal in January 2010. He headed back to his homeland this summer hoping to be given a clean slate and another opportunity to prove his worth but coach Kombouare opted to stick the player in the reserves. Despite having contacts with Greek side PAOK Salonika and Ankaragucu, the midfielder is thought to favour a stay in France, with Valenciennes and Auxerre having reportedly shown recent interest.
