Polish striker seeking Auxerre exit

Ireneusz Jelen is still hoping to seal a summer switch away from Auxerre, despite a lack of success so far. The Polish striker revealed towards the end of last season that he intended to head for pastures new once the transfer window reopened. However, the 29-year-old is yet to reach an agreement elsewhere and remains on the books at Stade Abbe-Deschamps A knee injury, which required surgery, has undoubtedly put potential suitors off, but Jelen is refusing to give up on the prospect of securing a move before the end of August. "Auxerre have given me the green light to leave," he told L'Equipe. "I thought it would be sorted out quickly. My agent received a number of concrete offers, notably from clubs playing in the Champions League. "I don't know if Auxerre took notice of these offers, but they do exist.

No regrets

"I had a bone growth that had to be removed on 1st June. My rehabilitation lasted three weeks and since the surgery there have been fewer propositions. "Today I am an Auxerre player 100 per cent, and that is fine. I have no regrets. "The club knows my situation, I have one year left on my contract, and I am open to any offers." Auxerre have placed a €3million (£2.5m) price tag on Jelen and accept that anything could still happen before the window slams shut. Coach Jean Fernandez said: "At the end of last season I was convinced he would leave. But we have had no bids for him, or any other players. "Until 31st August clubs could show interest. I am relying on him for now, but no-one can guarantee me that he will still be here at the end of the month."
