Brazilian playmaker wants Stade Gerland stay

Lyon captain Juninho is eager to fight for his place at Stade Gerland and has revealed he received an offer from the United Arab Emirates in the summer. The Brazilian playmaker was expected to leave French champions Lyon in the summer due to the size of Claude Puel's squad. Juninho, 33, has admitted that he has considered quitting Lyon in the past and that he was approached by an unnamed club in the United Arab Emirates in the close-season. But he is now keen to remain a part of Puel's plans as Lyon look to secure an eighth successive Ligue 1 title.

Competition

"I am 33-years-old and I imagine I won't play all the matches anymore. However, I do not fear competition," Juninho told L'Equipe. "Did I ever think about leaving Lyon? Just once, when I came to the end of my first four-year contract. "I was 31-years-old and it was logical to consider my future. When (former manager) Gerard Houllier left I had a huge offer from Galatasaray and another proposal this year from United Arab Emirates. "I did think about it but I had to consider my family."
