St Mirren boss Danny Lennon fully expected St Johnstone to surge up the SPL table after a dismal start to the season.
The Perth club failed to pick up a win in August, but they found their feet in September as an unbeaten run earned boss Steve Lomas the manager of the month award.
Lennon felt that St Johnstone's new recruits needed time to settle and he is expecting a close contest when St Mirren travel to McDiarmid Park for a clash of two of the league's in-form sides on Saturday.
"St Johnstone had a terrific month with Steve rightly getting the manager of the month award," Lennon said.
"They had a horrible start to the season, I feel, because of such a turnaround and change of personnel, that takes a bit of time and that showed.
"They didn't win in August and then went through September unbeaten, showing the form that got them into the top six last season.
"So it is no surprise to me that, with the quality of players they have, that they have climbed the table.
"As for us, we have won three out of the last four games. So we are hitting form ourselves and will try to continue that.
"But I feel we have not hit fifth gear for long periods this season so hopefully we can do that on Saturday."
