Darren McGregor is determined to justify St Mirren's decision to hand him a new contract once he returns to action from a knee injury.
The defender has been sidelined by a cruciate ligament injury since early August and was due to be out of contract at the end of the season.
However, he signed a two-year extension last week and the 26-year-old believes it would have been 'poor form' if he had left the SPL club.
"I'm delighted with the wee bit of security," said McGregor in the
Daily Record. "It was in the back of my mind that my contract was up at the end of the season but my main priority was to get back playing and make sure my knee was okay.
Looking forward
"I was happy to stay here, I enjoy coming to the training ground every morning. The players, fans and manager have all supported me over the past six months so I thought I would repay them and spend another two years here.
"St Mirren have looked after me when I've been injured. So to leave at the end of this season after what they've done would be poor form.
"I'm looking forward to repaying the faith they've shown by signing me for another two years.
"There's always a possibility I could suffer a recurrence of the injury so the contract is a show commitment from St Mirren and I'm hoping to justify that next season."
