Derby County midfielder Stephen Pearson has confirmed he is hoping to sign a new contract to stay at Pride Park.
Pearson's current deal expires at the end of the season and he has been offered a one-year extension by Rams boss Nigel Clough.
The 27-year-old's agent told
skysports.com earlier in the week that the former Motherwell and Celtic man is weighing up his options regarding his future.
However, Pearson has revealed he is enjoying his time with the Championship club and is keen to stay with Clough's side.
"It is a great club and I am delighted to be here," Pearson told the
Derby Evening Telegraph. "Hopefully, I can stay here a bit longer.
"The manager here is trying to assemble a squad. I want to stay and, hopefully, we can get things sorted sooner rather than later.
"I have had a few injuries, but I have got a clean bill of health now and I aim to stay in the team longer."
Pearson has made 67 appearances for Derby since joining from Celtic in January 2007 and famously scored the goal which sent the club into the Premier League that same season after a play-off final win over West Brom.
