Foran offered new deal

Richie Foran is to make a decision on his Motherwell future on Friday.

The Irishman has scored 12 goals this season and manager Maurice Malpas is keen for him to sign a new two-and-a-half year deal.

Foran is delighted that Malpas has offered him a long-term contract, but wants to give the matter some thought before deciding whether to commit to the club.

"I was delighted and surprised when the manager pulled me in at the start of the week to ask if I'd be interested in signing a new deal," Foran explained.

"The gaffer wanted to know if I wanted to commit myself longer to the club or if I felt I was ready to move elsewhere.

"I said I'd let him know either way by Friday.

"He deserves a quick answer but I just want to chat things through with my dad and my agent before coming to any conclusions."

Despite Foran's excellent form Motherwell currently find themselves second from bottom in the Scottish Premier League, but the striker is confident his side will avoid the drop.

"I still believe this Motherwell team is too good to get sucked into a real relegation dogfight between now and May," he said.

"We have another big game next Tuesday at Dunfermline but I believe there are still five or six teams who can't afford to breathe easily on that front."
