Scottish Premiership: Inverness boss John Hughes remains calm despite seeing side go top

Inverness manager John Hughes insists he and his side will not get carried away despite soaring to the top of the Scottish Premiership with a 4-2 win over Hamilton.

Two of the league's form sides played out a pulsating encounter in the Highlands capital that was finally sealed when James Vincent slotted past Michael McGovern with 13 minutes to go.

"I'm the same as I was at the start of the season, I never get carried away," he said. "I felt we deserved the victory.

"We were very good in the first half and were unfortunate to lose a goal from a free-kick. But in the second half we were very good.

"We stopped playing a bit at 3-1 but when we had to go again, we got the fourth goal that killed them off.

"But I won't be putting my head above the parapet, because football has a habit of kicking you up the backside."

Hamilton are another side who have topped the table so far this season but the defeat in Inverness means they have failed to win in their last three games and manager Alex Neil was left ruing defensive mistakes.

"I said before the game to our players it would be a terrific game because they play the same way we try to play," he said. "We like to control possession and try to impose ourselves on other teams.

"The disappointing thing is the goals we've conceded. The first one is a good move from Inverness, but the other three were poor.

"The second is a ball into the box, the third is a hooked ball forward and the fourth is a ball straight through the defence.

"It's disappointing but with young players sometimes you have to have mistakes for them to learn from it."
