Greg Tansey's proposed move to Scottish Premier League outfit Inverness Caledonian Thistle has stalled following Stockport County's insistence that the player sees out his contract with the relegated Cheshire side.
Tansey was hoping to move to Scotland in the first week of June with pre-season training due to start next week.
With the SPL season to kick-off early on July 23rd, Inverness were also hoping Tansey could join up with the rest of the squad and settle into his new surrounds.
However, with Stockport's well-reported financial problems still an issue the Hatters are waiting to see if they can get any sort of fee from an English side for Tansey, whose move to Scotland will be as a free transfer under Fifa rules.
Tansey returns from holiday later this week and his agent Rob Shield has updated
skysports.com on the situation: "Stockport are entitled to hold onto Greg until the end of the month, hoping that a club in England will offer them some money instead of him moving to Scotland for free.
"However, Greg is committed to Inverness and would only consider a stay in England if a Championship side came knocking which hasn't happened.
"He's had a number of clubs in League Two and a couple from League One show interest but he's really impressed with Inverness and manager Terry Butcher's ambitious plans and the exposure he will get in the SPL."
