Ryan Esson has left Shrewsbury after coming to an agreement with the club to mutually terminate his contract.
The 27-year-old joined the club in the summer of 2006 after receiving rave reviews after some impressive displays for Aberdeen.
However, Esson is yet to play in the league for the club so far this season and with the transfer window about to close a mutual agreement has been made to let the keeper depart as a free agent.
Town boss Gary Peters confirmed the news to the club's official website, and said the decision is good for both the club and Esson.
"Ryan Esson's left the club because we've come to an agreement on the remainder of his contract.

"He's not getting in the team here and it's a case that he needs to be going out and playing games.
"We've allowed him to leave the club early so he can go and get himself fixed up."
Esson failed to cement the No.1 spot after he sustained a broken cheekbone in a reserve team fixture early on in his Town career.
"Ryan was a really good player in the Scottish Premier League but it's a different type of league than the one we play in.
"When he started with us he didn't have the best of starts and then within a few weeks of being here he cracked his cheekbone and was out most of the season.
"This season he has been playing regularly in the reserves and doing well but needs to be playing first-team football."
