Kris Commons has blasted the 'outrageous' incident which saw Celtic boss Neil Lennon attacked on the touchline at Hearts.
The Bhoys boss was targeted by a man who raced from the stands at Tynecastle and aimed a punch at Lennon before being arrested by the police following a scuffle on the sidelines.
With Lennon having been subjected to recent death threats with parcel bombs intercepted by police, the incident raised serious safety questions.
And Commons, who scored Celtic's third goal in their 3-0 success before being dismissed for celebrating with the away fans, was stunned by the scenes he witnessed early in the second half.
Commons told
Sky Sports: "I'm lost for words. It shouldn't be in the game, it shouldn't be anywhere near football.
"For a manager to get attacked on the side of the field is just outrageous.
"It is one of those things which has saddened the result of the game."
Too strong
Celtic defender Mark Wilson believes his boss will shrug off the latest controversy and focus on the visit of Motherwell on Sunday.
The Bhoys are one point adrift of Rangers going into the final round of fixtures, with the defending champions away at Kilmarnock.
"I firmly believe he is too strong a character for that," he said.
"He has been though a lot this season, I can't remember any other manager going through that before. He has dealt with it but tonight was a real low point for Celtic and Scottish football. But I think he is strong enough to deal with it.
"He has a real love for the club and I don't think he would let that affect him. It is a sad night but it is not a sad dressing room. Apart from 30 seconds of madness, it is a real good night for us.
"But of course all the spotlight is going to be on this nutcase who ran on. It should never happen, obviously.
"He (Lennon) was upbeat and delighted in the dressing room, you wouldn't think anything had happened.
"That's the kind of guy he is, very strong and purely focused on trying to win this league."
