Tony Mowbray has moved to shore up his defence after an injury to Gary Caldwell.
Hibernian manager Tony Mowbray has moved quickly to shore up his defence after a serious injury to skipper Gary Caldwell.
Mowbray was in contact with Dutchman Humphrey Rudge on Monday morning and the 27-year-old is now expected to sign a short-term deal at Easter Road.
Former Roda player Rudge spent a week on trial at the end of last month and played in Hibs' final pre-season match against Hartlepool.
Mowbray told the club's official website: "I had a conversation with Humphrey this morning and there is a fair chance we will do something short-term.
"I'm hoping we can do something today that will suit both parties."
The need for a new recruit came about after Caldwell suffered a punctured lung and broken ribs in a collision with his own goalkeeper Zibi Malkowski during Sunday's Edinburgh derby.
The incident happened only 22 minutes into the game and although Caldwell initially attempted to play on, he was forced to succumb to the injury shortly afterwards.
Mowbray confirmed the injury is expected to keep the Scotland international out for up to six weeks.
