Ridsdale also confirms Russell is leaving Preston

Preston North End midfielder Barry Nicholson is holding talks with Fleetwood Town and is expected to join the Football League new boys. Nicholson has spent the past four years at Preston after joining from Aberdeen and still has a further 12 months left on his contract. However, he is not part of manager Graham Westley's plans for the coming season and the 33-year-old has been given permission to speak to Fleetwood. "Barry Nicholson - with our permission - has been talking to Fleetwood and we believe a deal will be done there," Preston chairman Peter Ridsdale told the Lancashire Evening Post. "He's been an outstanding professional for us and if he does leave, all our supporters should recognise what he has given to Preston." Meanwhile, Ridsdale has also confirmed that Darel Russell will be leaving Preston as revealed by Sky Sports on Tuesday. He added: "We've come with a financial arrangement with Darel and his agent. "That verbal agreement should be written off today and he goes with our best wishes."
