Robbie Neilson has secured the SPFL Championship Manager of the Month award after guiding Hearts to the top of the league during his first competitive month in charge at Tynecastle.

Neilson, who ended the month with a 100 per cent winning record, has secured victories in all four of his opening fixtures, the latest being a comfortable 4-1 success over Falkirk.

He received recognition from SPFL officials on Thursday in light of his fine start to the campaign.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Neilson said: "It is pleasing to get this award but really it is recognition of the hard work the staff, players and the whole club in general has been putting in.”

Since joining the club in managerial capacity in May, Neilson has made 11 new signings, most notably bolstering his squad, who were relegated from the Premiership last term, with midfielders Morgaro Gomis, Prince Buaben and Osman Sow.

The end of a year-long administration process offered Neilson the chance to rebuild and he has since conducted business astutely on and off the field.

Hearts head to Dumbarton on Saturday hoping to maintain their perfect league record as domestic football resumes after the international break.
