Hearts close to first signings

Hearts are thought to be close to signing Hristos Karipidis and Mauricio Pinilla.

Hearts coach Valdas Ivanauskas is close to making Greek defender Hristos Karipidis his first signing of the summer.

The Lithuanian has so far been unable to bring in any new faces to Tynecastle but has run the rule over a number of prospective signings.

However, Karipidis is in Scotland hoping to strike a deal with the UEFA Champions League outfit.

The PAOK Salonika man has already agreed terms with The Jambos and is currently waiting on the results of medical examinations, although a fee is yet to be agreed between the two clubs.

The Greek outfit are looking for a fee in the region of ‚é¼300,000 (£206,000) for Karipidis and Ivanauskas hopes to complete the deal in the near future.

"We have had a look at Hristos and he is a player that we like," he said in The Scotsman.

"He had his medical yesterday and we are just waiting for the results to come back.

"If everything comes back okay and we can sort out his contract situation with PAOK, because he still has one year left with them, then we hope he will join us."

Meanwhile, Karipidis may not be the only new player arriving at Tynecastle this week, with Chilean forward Mauricio Pinilla (pictured) also nearing a switch to Scotland.
