Jambos coach Graham Rix knows Hackett well from his time at The Kassam Stadium and he is now ready to rival neighbours Hibernian for Hackett.
"Chris played under me when I was coach at Oxford and he is a player Hearts are interested in," admitted Rix.
"We will have to wait and see what develops."
Meanwhile, Hearts are also believed to be weighing up an offer for Dundee's highly-rated midfielder duo Kevin McDonald and Scott Robertson.
