Dons joy at call-ups

Jimmy Calderwood is delighted his players are gaining international recognition.

Jimmy Calderwood is delighted his Aberdeen players are gaining international recognition with Scotland.

Dons duo Russell Anderson and Scott Severin have been included in the Scots squad for next week's friendly with Austria, while Zander Diamond is in the Under-21 set-up.

Aberdeen boss Calderwood believes it is indicative of the club's progress during the past 12 months that he now has international performers at his disposal.

Calderwood also feels that there are more players at Pittodrie who could eventually make the breakthrough in the international arena.

"I'm delighted that Anderson and Severin are in the squad for the Austria game," said Calderwood.

"Zander Diamond is in the Under-21s and Ricky Foster would have been there as well but for illness.

"I believe it's an indicator of the club's progress that these players are part of the country's plans.

"But there are more players at Pittodrie capable of climbing the international ladder.

"Barry Nicholson and Jamie Smith, who have been there before, still have a lot to offer while Darren Mackie and Chris Clark were outstanding last season."
