Rangers have confirmed the appointment of Mark Warburton as manager on a three-year contract, with former player Davie Weir named as assistant boss.
Former City trader Warburton guided Brentford to the Sky Bet Championship play-offs last season having helped them secure promotion from League One the previous campaign.
But he was told before the end of the season he would not be retained by the Bees and will now attempt to guide Gers into the Scottish Premiership.
Stuart McCall had been employed on a short-term contract and he led the Light Blues to the end-of-season play-offs.
But McCall failed to secure a permanent deal after Rangers missed out on promotion to the Scottish Premiership, losing 6-1 on aggregate to his former club Motherwell.
Warburton flew into Glasgow airport on Monday morning and went straight to meet up with Weir at Ibrox, where the duo finalised the details of their deals.
He has a major rebuilding job ahead of him after Rangers released 11 players at the end of last month and five loan players borrowed from Newcastle returned to St James' Park.
The 52-year-old said: "We're very aware of the history and size of the club. It's a challenge but it's one we're going to look forward to and relish and embrace as we look to take the club forward.
"Very quickly, you realise the scale of the club, what you can achieve and where you hope to take it. Very quickly, you realise it's a fantastic opportunity.
"I'm sure there will be some mistakes but it's important to try to get it right as quickly as possible. The season is a few weeks away now and we have to be as prepared as we possibly can be.
"We're going to look at the squad, look at what we've got and look at how we can strengthen. We'll look at the staffing structure, the support network around the first team and try to create the right environment for those players to develop and flourish."
Warburton becomes just the 15th manager in Rangers' 143-year history and director Paul Murray believes the new appointments are the right men to fix a club he said was "broken at every level" recently.
He said: "The new board wants to build a modern football club but build it on traditions and value and I think we've got a combination of these things.
"Mark has shown himself to be a very progressive manager with lots of fresh ideas from his experience at Brentford. Davie is a legend at the club and the two of them together are, we believe, the right team to take Rangers forward."
