Hearts and Rangers both missed the chance to close the gap on leaders Celtic.

Hearts and Rangers both missed the chance to close the gap on leaders Celtic with 1-1 home draws against Dunfermline and Motherwell respectively.

Andrius Velicka had The Jambos ahead after 12 minutes but Jim Hamilton netted a 48th minute equaliser a take two points from the trip to Tynecastle.

The draw is likely to heap more pressure on the Hearts players, with majority shareholder Vladimir Romanov reportedly suggesting players would be sold if they failed to beat Dunfermline.

Rangers also spurned a one-goal lead in the second half at Ibrox after Kris Boyd had put Paul Le Guen's men ahead 10 minutes before the break.

Brian Kerr netted a 57th minute equaliser to leave Rangers trailing nine points behind Celtic.

Falkirk smashed five past bottom side Dundee United, with Anthony Stokes bagging a hat-trick.

Russell Latapy began the rout inside two minutes and Stokes strikes either side of half time (39 & 48) put the hosts in control.

Noel Hunt saw red for United on 67 minutes but the ten men pulled one back through Collin Samuel minutes later.

However, Marc Twaddle restored the three-goal lead (75) and Stokes completed his hat-trick with a last-minute penalty.

John Sutton rescued a point for St Mirren at home to Inverness on 65 minutes after Craig Dargo had Inverness ahead at the break with a 34th minute effort.
