Celtic defender Jason Denayer has been named the SPFL's young player of the month for March.

During the period Denayer, who is on loan from Manchester City, scored vital goals against Aberdeen and Dundee United to help the Hoops remain on course for a domestic treble.

The 19-year-old was also handed his first full international cap for Belgium, coming on as a second-half substitute against Israel following the dismissal of City team-mate Vincent Kompany.

Denayer, who lifted the League Cup at the start of the month following a 2-0 victory over Dundee United at Hampden, admits he is unsure over his future as his season-long deal comes to an end.

Speaking on the eve of Celtic's game in hand against Kilmarnock, a match which could see their lead at the top of the table extended to eight points, he said: "I don't know what will happen. I need to wait until the end of the season to see.

"I came to Celtic to play games and this is what I do. I also came for trophies and I have won one already and hopefully two more."

But Celtic manager Ronny Deila was more committal over the youngster's immediate future, claiming an extended stay at Parkhead would be his best option.

"He's nearly 20 years old, he should stay here and play for maybe one or two more years then take the next step," he said. "That's what I would do... but then again not everyone listens to me."
